oe Biden picks the Black women and the first Muslim
For the federal judgeships, US President Joe Biden picks the Black women and the first Muslim.
President Joe Biden nominated the first Muslim ever, several Black women and also an Asian American, to federal judgeship Tuesday in a push for diversity in the US court system.
President Joe Biden on Tuesday named several black women, an Asian American and the first Muslim to be a federal judge in a bid to diversify the US court system.
The first name on their list is Judge Ketanji Brian Jackson, an African-American who was named in a U.S. court appeal for the District of Columbia Circuit, which is considered to handle large cases.
Upon confirmation by the Senate, Jackson, 50, will replace Merrick Garland, now Joe Biden's attorney general, and is in a good position to run for office if a vacancy arises.
To date, no black woman has served in the nine-judge high court.
